Cold Pizza: A Culinary Debate Worth Exploring

The principal focus of this podcast episode revolves around the recent election of Pope Leo XIV, an unprecedented event as he hails from the United States. Our discussion delves into the significance of this historic appointment and the accompanying traditions that characterize the papal election process, emphasizing the continuity of ceremonial practices that endure through the ages. I also share my personal reflections on the experience of receiving a professional haircut, which provided insights into the often-overlooked joys of grooming and personal care. Furthermore, I express my sentiments regarding Mother's Day, acknowledging the profound influence of my late mother on my understanding of self-care rituals. This episode ultimately invites listeners to engage with their own experiences and opinions, fostering a dialogue on various topics, including culinary preferences and the nuances of maintaining personal appearances.

The podcast presents a captivating exploration of contemporary themes interwoven with personal anecdotes, offering listeners a glimpse into the life and thoughts of the speaker, Grey Hair Dave. He commences with a warm greeting, establishing a congenial rapport with the audience, before delving into the announcement of a new Pope, Pope Leo XIV, a momentous event that resonates deeply within the realm of religious leadership. Dave expresses astonishment at the emergence of a United States-born Pope, highlighting the significance of this development in the context of American society and the Catholic Church. He articulates admiration for the traditions and ceremonies surrounding papal elections, illustrating the continued relevance and grandeur of such rituals in a modern world, thus inviting listeners to appreciate the cultural and historical weight they carry.

As the discourse unfolds, Grey Hair Dave transitions to personal reflections regarding his recent experiences at a barber shop, where he discovers the nuances and joys of professional grooming. His narrative shifts from a mere haircut to a revelatory exploration of self-care and the intrinsic value of taking time for oneself. He recounts the meticulous care provided by the barber, including the application of hot towels and the artistry involved in beard trimming, which serves as a metaphor for the broader human experience of seeking comfort and connection in everyday activities. This segment not only entertains but also provokes contemplation on societal norms regarding masculinity and grooming, as Dave juxtaposes his own past experiences with the modern practices he now embraces.

In the concluding segments, Grey Hair Dave poignantly reflects on the essence of community and connection, urging listeners to engage with their surroundings and cultivate positivity through simple gestures like smiling at strangers. He encapsulates the overarching theme of the episode: the importance of human interaction and the small acts that can uplift both oneself and others. Through his candid storytelling and heartfelt messages, Dave reinforces the significance of finding joy in life's mundane moments, leaving listeners with a sense of warmth and encouragement to seek out their own connections and experiences. Speaker A:

Welcome to five Minutes with Grey Hair Dave.

Speaker A:

He has grey hair.

Speaker A:

He has a grey beard and he wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.

Speaker A:

Oh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking.

Speaker A:

Now here is gray Haired Dave.

Speaker B:

Well, well, well, folks.

Speaker B:

Welcome back.

Speaker B:

Yep, it's me.

Speaker B:

It's gray Hair Dave.

Speaker B:

I'm back again.

Speaker B:

Hope you're all doing well.

Speaker B:

I really do.

Speaker B:

Sometimes I like to say I hope you're doing good, but I hope you're doing good and well, or well and good.

Speaker B:

How are you today?

Speaker B:

You know, I've been.

Speaker B:

Did you hear that?

Speaker B:

Did you guys hear that?

Speaker B:

That's the train whistle from Disney.

Speaker B:

It's nice out right now because it rained earlier.

Speaker B:

It cooled it off and I got my window open because now it's gorgeous outside.

Speaker B:

And that's one of the advantages to where I live.

Speaker B:

I get to hear the sounds sometimes the train.

Speaker B:

Every once in a while I'll get to hear the, the boat whistles from the big boats over at the lagoon and Seven Seas Lagoon.

Speaker B:

Ah, it's, it's so much fun.

Speaker B:

It's.

Speaker B:

You know, I hear fireworks every night.

Speaker B:

I really, really do.

Speaker B:

Let's get back to the original opening.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

What did you think of 11 labs?

Speaker B:

I still, I still like it.

Speaker B:

I think it's so much fun and I get to go out there and play with it and have, and find new voices or maybe give it something new to say.

Speaker B:

But not normally.

Speaker B:

Not normally, but I'm happy with it.

Speaker B:

It's 11labs.IO look into it, see what you think.

Speaker B:

They're not a sponsor.

Speaker B:

I'm just telling you this out of the goodness of my heart.

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker B:

So I have a couple things I want to talk about today.

Speaker B:

Number one.

Speaker B:

Number one, and I am not Catholic and please don't hold that against me.

Speaker B:

I'm an Episcopalian and my brother tells me that Episcopalian is Catholic.

Speaker B:

Light kind of makes sense to me.

Speaker B:

But I got to watch while I was at lunch them announce the new Pope, Pope Leo xiv.

Speaker B:

And he's an American out of Chicago area.

Speaker B:

He grew up in Dalton, Illinois, which is just a suburb of Chicago, south of Chicago.

Speaker B:

I think that that is amazing because I never in my lifetime never thought that I would hear of a United States born Pope.

Speaker B:

I don't think many Americans did either, but it happened.

Speaker B:

My gosh, what a great day.

Speaker B:

And again, like I said, I'm not Catholic, but I feel a little better today because I know the leadership is back in, you know, in the Catholic Church because it's been a couple weeks since the last Pope died.

Speaker B:

And it was, it was time.

Speaker B:

But they have their specific ways, and I like the fact that they've got specific ways.

Speaker B:

It's pretty cool to me.

Speaker B:

So that was the first thing I wanted to talk.

Speaker B:

Oh, God.

Speaker B:

The pomp and circumstance that goes along with this.

Speaker B:

This is the kind of thing that amazes me, too.

Speaker B:

I think it is so cool to watch these gorgeous, gorgeous ceremonies that have been handed down from decade for decades and decades and decades, and yet 90% of it is still used.

Speaker B:

Yeah, they may change something here or there, but for the second day and then the white smoke comes out, I think that's a, it is something nobody else does except, you know, for the Pope.

Speaker B:

That's so cool.

Speaker B:

All right, let's go on to the next subject.

Speaker B:

And mainly, and I'm not, not trying to discriminate the women here, but I now know why women enjoy going to the beauty salon.

Speaker B:

You know, they go, they get their hair done, they chat with their, their hairdresser, and it's just amazing.

Speaker B:

It's a, they have a fun time, and it's usually an hour or two for them.

Speaker B:

Well, I have never been to a professional barber in Florida.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

I've been down here 19, almost 19 years.

Speaker B:

You know what?

Speaker B:

It'll be 19 years this year or this month.

Speaker B:

Wow.

Speaker B:

But anyways, I just, you know, I go to whoever good clips is, where I've been going.

Speaker B:

And no, they don't sponsor me either, but that's where I've been going, is good clips.

Speaker B:

And, you know, for the last six, seven months, I haven't been going at all.

Speaker B:

I've been trimming my beard, you know, just to, just to try and make it look better.

Speaker B:

But the main reason I decided to go to, you know, a professional was that they do beards.

Speaker B:

The haircut was good.

Speaker B:

I, I, I, I, I made some mistake.

Speaker B:

It's, it's going to grow back.

Speaker B:

It's going to grow back.

Speaker B:

But he did a fine job.

Speaker B:

He did exactly as we talked about, and it was great.

Speaker B:

He had great conversations with him.

Speaker B:

And then he went to the beard.

Speaker B:

And my beard was about, oh, goodness, four inches long.

Speaker B:

Four, four, four, maybe five.

Speaker B:

And it was pretty symmetrical all the way around.

Speaker B:

Five inches right up to the ears.

Speaker B:

And he, he trimmed it properly, and we got it.

Speaker B:

He made it look really, really good.

Speaker B:

And I'm happy with it.

Speaker B:

I'm really happy with that part of that.

Speaker B:

And then there was a hot towel.

Speaker B:

Oh, my God, guys.

Speaker B:

I didn't know what I was missing.

Speaker B:

Seriously.

Speaker B:

I, I, that is such a cool, a cool, cool thing.

Speaker B:

You know, of course, that was after a little bit of the shave with a straight razor.

Speaker B:

It was such a close shave that I'm just now getting to the point where I might need to shave tomorrow, you know, around the beard.

Speaker B:

But, you know, he also tightened up the beard to make it symmetrical.

Speaker B:

So where it's, you know, one side's not a little higher than the other because just the natural growth.

Speaker B:

Nobody's as perfect.

Speaker B:

You have to work at it.

Speaker B:

You see these, these movie stars and these models and social media people, you know, the influencers and their beards are so perfect.

Speaker B:

Well, 90% of those guys are not doing that themselves.

Speaker B:

And for those other 10% that are, wow, congratulations, that's good stuff.

Speaker B:

But, you know, and then after we did that, you know, with a hot towel, he did a few more things with a beard, and then he was a cold towel, and, geez, it was just spectacular service that I've never had.

Speaker B:

When I went, I went to a barber when I was a kid, but this is a different kind of barbering.

Speaker B:

This was just, oh, amazing.

Speaker B:

And if you, if you haven't tried it, guys, I can only tell you, you need to, you need to at least once.

Speaker B:

There was a guy, he had come in while I was there.

Speaker B:

And, you know, he comes every two weeks because that's what he wants, Wants his hair to look a specific way.

Speaker B:

And yeah, it's vanity.

Speaker B:

It is, folks.

Speaker B:

But, you know, guys, we don't do that.

Speaker B:

And we were people my age.

Speaker B:

It's not what we did.

Speaker B:

We went, we got a haircut, and we went on.

Speaker B:

But I'm just saying, that was a lot of fun, and I now understand why.

Speaker B:

My mother every Saturday went to the salon.

Speaker B:

They took care of her hair.

Speaker B:

She was gone for a couple of hours.

Speaker B:

And, you know, it also is something to think about.

Speaker B:

It was a couple hours away from everything.

Speaker B:

Work, the house, me, my dad, my brothers, everything else that went along with it.

Speaker B:

She was able to walk away from it for two hours and just relax and be herself.

Speaker B:

I understand now, Mom.

Speaker B:

I do.

Speaker B:

And here in the United States this weekend, it's Mother's Day.

Speaker B:

I am, I am without my mother anymore.

Speaker B:

My mom's up in heaven and along with my father.

Speaker B:

And on this Mother's Day, I really, really will miss you.

Speaker B:

Now, I went back to work this week.

Speaker B:

That's why I got the haircut.

Speaker B:

I've been on light.

Speaker B:

I've been on no work duty for three and a half months now.

Speaker B:

I went back on, on light duty and I am working for one of the restaurants helping them with, you know, folding towel or folding napkins.

Speaker B:

And today a new project came up that they needed my little help with putting some boxes together.

Speaker B:

I was happy and excited to do it because it, I thought I was going to hate it.

Speaker B:

I hate going back to work.

Speaker B:

You know, you don't do anything for three and a half months and you don't go to work.

Speaker B:

You kind of get used to it.

Speaker B:

I thought, yeah, I'm going to hate this.

Speaker B:

Like as soon as I got got into the utilidors at Magic Kingdom, I was a happy guy.

Speaker B:

I felt good again.

Speaker B:

I felt better.

Speaker B:

So there's that subject.

Speaker B:

I went back to work.

Speaker B:

Subject number three, I went back to work.

Speaker B:

And I'm happy about it, folks.

Speaker B:

Really am.

Speaker B:

So now on to subject number four.

Speaker B:

And we're going to skip politics this week.

Speaker B:

We're running out of time.

Speaker B:

Speaker B:

I don't care to and I'm selfish.

Speaker B:

I don't want to give anybody else your information, but I want you to tell me what are your opinions on cold pizza last night I had pizza for dinner.

Speaker B:

I came home today and was a little hungry.

Speaker B:

I had lunch at work, but I was a little hungry and I ate the last two pieces of cold pizza.

Speaker B:

I loved it.

Speaker B:

It was great.

Speaker B:

And in fact I got a Hawaiian pizza last night.

Speaker B:

Tell me if you like Hawaiian pizzas.

Speaker B:

Speaker B:

But I love Hawaiian pizzas.

Speaker B:

Speaker B:

Speaker B:

Speaker B:
