Speaker A:

Welcome to five Minutes with Grey Hair Dave.

Speaker A:

He has grey hair, he has a grey beard and he wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.

Speaker A:

Oh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking.

Speaker A:

Now here is gray haired Dave.

Speaker B:

Well, folks, how are you today?

Speaker B:

Welcome back.

Speaker B:

I'm back.

Speaker B:

I'm ready to attack.

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker B:

I tell you, last week was a crazy kind of a week between work and physical therapy and all the craziness that goes along with that, I didn't record last week and I apologize for that.

Speaker B:

So I'm gonna try and do two this week if I can get it in just to kind of make up for where we were at.

Speaker B:

So here's what's going on.

Speaker B:

Here's what's going on on my, on my side of things, in case you're interested.

Speaker B:

I'm doing physical therapy three times a week.

Speaker B:

I go back to my doctor on the 3rd of June and we see what's going on and my progression is going.

Speaker B:

Had three right in a row last week, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday for physical therapy and oh boy, I hurt bad until yesterday and then I went for physical therapy.

Speaker B:

Now I hurt again.

Speaker B:

Gonna run out of pain pills before I go back.

Speaker B:

But anyways, that's, that's neither here nor there.

Speaker B:

It's, I think it's helping.

Speaker B:

But also being back to work helps a little bit.

Speaker B:

You know, I mentioned before I wasn't excited to go back.

Speaker B:

I really wasn't until I got there.

Speaker B:

And then I'm happy to be there.

Speaker B:

I really am.

Speaker B:

You know, it's a joy.

Speaker B:

And I get to see people again, be around people again, be and conversation with people.

Speaker B:

And I think that that's a great thing.

Speaker B:

It's making me feel better.

Speaker B:

So yay for that.

Speaker B:

My doctor was right.

Speaker B:

And I hope you're listening to your doctor if you're going to one.

Speaker B:

So speaking of doctors, let's change subjects for a minute and let's go to politics just for a couple of minutes.

Speaker B:

I, I watch and I, I listen to, I watch the television for the news, you know, now.

Speaker B:

And I, you know, I'll listen to some podcasts on, on politics.

Speaker B:

There's a couple that I listen to, but I heard this one yesterday or the day before where now former President Biden has prostate cancer.

Speaker B:

And now I don't know if this is true or not.

Speaker B:

And I'm not here to say he is does or doesn't.

Speaker B:

I am here to say that if he does, it doesn't explain, it doesn't explain the way he's been acting the last few years.

Speaker B:

That's nothing to do with.

Speaker B:

Really does not.

Speaker B:

I had the same kind.

Speaker B:

I had prostate cancer.

Speaker B:

I'm a survivor, and I know what he's going through.

Speaker B:

But I also know that I did not have any cognitive decline, any balance issues or, or things such as that.

Speaker B:

Now, that's all I'm saying about President Biden, about the man himself.

Speaker B:

Except for this.

Speaker B:

With the new technologies and with the new medications that are out there, he can live a very long life after this.

Speaker B:

He can be treated in multiple ways, I'm sure, and, and go on with life just as normal, depending upon which, you know, which way he decides to go or he and his family decide to go treatment wise.

Speaker B:

Now, if it were myself at his age, probably just have it removed.

Speaker B:

You know, it beats going through all the therapies and the back and forth to the hospital.

Speaker B:

But, you know, that's a personal thing.

Speaker B:

It really, really is.

Speaker B:

And one of the reasons that I wanted to bring this up today, especially, I listened to.

Speaker B:

I listened to a lot of podcasts and I listened to this one about.

Speaker B:

Or not about, but who.

Speaker B:

I listened to this one where they were interviewing a TV star from Baywatch.

Speaker B:

And it was brought up that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago, and she's a single mom of two.

Speaker B:

And she said the same thing that happened to me when I was diagnosed or when I was told that I have cancer.

Speaker B:

The minute they tell you you have cancer, you stop listening.

Speaker B:

You don't hear anything anymore.

Speaker B:

You just.

Speaker B:

It's just like this hum in your head, going, blocking everything out.

Speaker B:

You don't want to hear no more.

Speaker B:

You can't hear anymore at that point in time.

Speaker B:

And I find that, that, that's amazing because it's.

Speaker B:

It's nice to know that I am not the only one that that has happened to.

Speaker B:

Which is why if there's a chance that you have cancer and you are going for tests or test results, it's important you take somebody with you.

Speaker B:

Even if that is just a friend or a co worker, you need to really take somebody with you so that they can get the rest of the information.

Speaker B:

I mean, it's, it's.

Speaker B:

And that's not forever.

Speaker B:

Not everybody reacts the way that this lady does or that I do.

Speaker B:

But the majority of people that I have talked to, yeah, as soon as they say your tests are positive, you do have cancer, you're done, your day is over with.

Speaker B:

You are.

Speaker B:

You're devastated and you think you're gonna die.

Speaker B:

But with today's technologies and all the advancements they've made, there's a very good chance you're not going to die from cancer right away.

Speaker B:

Depends on what you have.

Speaker B:

You know, if you have lung cancer, your chances of dying are a little greater.

Speaker B:

But they've.

Speaker B:

The treatments they've come up with, even in that, have just been phenomenal on the advancements that they've made.

Speaker B:

So, Joe, get back to Joe Biden.

Speaker B:

Been there, done that, buddy.

Speaker B:

You can do it, too.

Speaker B:

And if this actor can do it, so can you.

Speaker B:

You have to get through, and you will.

Speaker B:

And you have a support system of a wife and family, so you'll be just fine.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker B:

And that's very, very important, I believe, because of my situation.

Speaker B:

I was.

Speaker B:

I was living with my last girlfriend when I.

Speaker B:

I found out I had cancer, and she was there to help me through it.

Speaker B:

And I.

Speaker B:

To this day, I'm very, very grateful for that.

Speaker B:

But I talked to my family more because I'm so far away from them.

Speaker B:

One of my brothers had the same thing I did, and I didn't know it till later, years later, he didn't.

Speaker B:

He told his family, but I didn't need to know.

Speaker B:

So I don't know where we are with that.

Speaker B:

I mean, I.

Speaker B:

I became a little closer with those guys, both of my brothers, because, you know, you drift away with time.

Speaker B:

You also drift away because of location, where you are.

Speaker B:

I'm in Florida.

Speaker B:

They're in Michigan.

Speaker B:

I don't travel up there very.

Speaker B:

I don't travel up there at all.

Speaker B:

They may come down here, but I don't go up there.

Speaker B:

It's.

Speaker B:

I left for a reason.

Speaker B:

Is.

Speaker B:

It gets cold up there now I should go back and see people.

Speaker B:

But I've been gone for 19 years, folks.

Speaker B:

Yeah, I've been down in Florida 19 years.

Speaker B:

That's hard to believe.

Speaker B:

So if you have a support system, even if it's over the phone or over zoom, take advantage of it.

Speaker B:

You're gonna need it.

Speaker B:

Okay, so now that we're.

Speaker B:

Let's change subjects to something a little happier.

Speaker B:

Dogs.

Speaker B:

Dogs are happy, aren't they?

Speaker B:

I met a dog yesterday, and he's visiting for a day or so because my roommate, she.

Speaker B:

She'll take in.

Speaker B:

She'll babysit dogs for once in a while.

Speaker B:

And his parents named this dog Astro.

Speaker B:

Like from the Jetsons.

Speaker B:

I am.

Speaker B:

I find that the names that people are giving their dogs lately amaze me.

Speaker B:

I mean, there's a lot of.

Speaker B:

There's a lot of dogs in the neighborhood.

Speaker B:

And when you're out and about, you run into people walking their dogs or outside playing with their dogs.

Speaker B:

Just the names.

Speaker B:

There was another one visiting the other day, name is Bailey.

Speaker B:

You know, okay, why not?

Speaker B:

Yeah, you get the Lulus and all the other kinds, but I found Astro to be quite entertaining because, you know, it's from the Jetsons.

Speaker B:

You know, it's.

Speaker B:

I loved it.

Speaker B:

It was.

Speaker B:

It's great.

Speaker B:

Every time I think of that name, I chuckle.

Speaker B:

And that's just me, folks.

Speaker B:

So anyway, here we go.

Speaker B:

I am going to say this, folks.

Speaker B:

Wisdom, wit and Sarcasm from a Boomer
Well, it's me just being me.
Welcome to 5 Minutes with Gray Hair Dave!
Hello, everyone! I'm Gray Hair Dave, and I'm thrilled to introduce my new podcast, which will run for about 5 to 10 minutes each episode. I plan to share these episodes daily, despite my full-time job, so expect some flexibility in release times.
In this podcast, I'll be sharing my life experiences, having worked in various industries from paper mills to airlines, and even running a dance studio. I've also had my fair share of personal challenges, including two marriages that didn't work out, but that's life, and I'm here to share the wisdom I've gained.
I'm also excited to talk about my new venture, Boomer Podcasting, where I aim to teach fellow baby boomers and anyone interested in podcasting how to share their stories and leave a legacy.
This podcast isn't just for baby boomers, though. I welcome listeners of all generations to join in as I discuss life lessons, my new business, and a range of topics from family and friendships to music, TV shows, cars, technology, books, historical events, and even encounters with famous individuals.
I promise to keep the content upbeat and child-friendly, with no cursing or ranting. I've got a lot planned for the first 30 days and am open to more ideas. So, stay tuned for engaging stories, reflections on past decades, and discussions on holiday traditions.
Remember, this podcast is for everyone, and I want to show that anyone can podcast, even with just a phone. I'm looking forward to sharing more and hope you'll join me on this journey. Keep an eye out for my website, which will be up soon, and feel free to reach out with suggestions or just to say hi.
