Understanding the Impact of Change in the World of Disney

This podcast episode delves into the transformative nature of change, particularly within the context of entertainment and personal experiences. We explore the evolution occurring at Disney World, where attractions such as the Muppets 3D Adventure are being reimagined to accommodate new developments like Cars Land. I recount my own journey, sharing insights into my current work situation and recent improvements in my health. The discussion further extends to the implications of change, emphasizing the necessity to adapt in an ever-evolving world. Throughout our conversation, we reflect on the balance between nostalgia and innovation, underscoring the importance of catering to both children and adults in today's entertainment landscape.

The podcast delves into the intricacies of the host's experiences and reflections, particularly centering around the dynamics of modern podcasting, the significance of technology in audio production, and the personal anecdotes that underscore the host's journey. The host, Gray Hair Dave, articulates his preference for a consistent introduction format, highlighting his utilization of AI-generated voices from Eleven Labs IO, which he emphasizes are distinct from his own authentic vocal expressions. This segment serves to illustrate the juxtaposition of innovation and authenticity in the realm of digital content creation.

Further into the discourse, the host provides an engaging narrative about his life, touching upon the climatic variations in Florida, including the peculiar influx of Sahara sands. Through these observations, the host expresses a blend of bemusement and resignation towards the complexities of environmental phenomena, ultimately reflecting on the broader implications of climate change and personal health challenges he has faced, particularly regarding his foot condition. In recounting his gradual recovery and adaptation to a light-duty role within Disney, he conveys a sense of continuity and resilience, emphasizing the importance of maintaining social connections through work and community engagement.

The latter part of the podcast transitions into a discussion on the evolution of entertainment at Disney, including recent developments such as the closure of the Muppets 3D Adventure and the introduction of a new Cars Land. This segment encapsulates the host's ambivalence towards change, as he acknowledges the necessity of adaptation within the entertainment landscape while expressing nostalgia for beloved attractions. His reflections serve as a microcosm of the broader cultural shifts occurring within theme parks, where the balance between honoring tradition and embracing innovation remains a contentious yet vital discourse.

In conclusion, the episode encapsulates themes of nostalgia, change, and personal growth, as Gray Hair Dave navigates his experiences and thoughts within the context of a rapidly evolving digital and environmental landscape, ultimately encouraging listeners to embrace their own narratives and contributions to the world. Speaker A:

Welcome to five Minutes with Grey Hair Dave.

Speaker A:

He has grey hair.

Speaker A:

He has a grey beard and he wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.

Speaker A:

Oh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking.

Speaker A:

Now here is gray Hair day.

Speaker B:

Well, well, well, folks.

Speaker B:

What did you think of that elevenlabs IO intro, if you remember.

Speaker B:

Right, I told you that I enjoy having my intros be pretty much the same all the time.

Speaker B:

It's going to be the same words.

Speaker B:

It just may be a different announcer.

Speaker B:

And I get Those voices from 11 labs IO now I say that in the beginning because I want you to know that that is an AI voice.

Speaker B:

This is not an AI voice.

Speaker B:

This is me.

Speaker B:

Yep, that's me, Dave.

Speaker B:

Good old gray hair Dave.

Speaker B:

So that's the great thing about eleven Labs is that it can give you all kinds of different things.

Speaker B:

The one thing you got to remember is I'm not affiliated with 11 labs, at least not yet.

Speaker B:

I'm going to look into it and see if they've got a affiliate program.

Speaker B:

But right now I'm not have.

Speaker B:

I don't have any affiliates, affiliate programs that I'm working when it comes to the things that are involved with this podcast.

Speaker B:

So I hope everybody's doing great.

Speaker B:

It's been a.

Speaker B:

It's been a week here, been a different kind of a week.

Speaker B:

And we've.

Speaker B:

We've had some rain here in Florida, which is always good and not always, but we were a little bit low on the rain, but it's not been terrible.

Speaker B:

But we are getting.

Speaker B:

Is the Sahara sands.

Speaker B:

The Sahara sand is making its way all the way over to the United States because of the.

Speaker B:

The jet stream, the wind flow, all that kind of stuff.

Speaker B:

And it's just weird.

Speaker B:

I don't, I personally don't understand it.

Speaker B:

I don't understand what in the world's going on with that.

Speaker B:

And I firmly believe it's not my decision or my responsibility to know these things.

Speaker B:

All I have to do is know that that's there and I don't like it.

Speaker B:

But today it has.

Speaker B:

It is keeping the rain chances down.

Speaker B:

So that's cool.

Speaker B:

So what else is going on in your life or my life here?

Speaker B:

Oh, goodness.

Speaker B:

When it comes to the foot problems, we've.

Speaker B:

We've gotten a little bit better.

Speaker B:

We're out of the brace that I got originally from the doctor.

Speaker B:

Now I'm into a what is called an ankle stabilizing brace.

Speaker B:

Sorry for that noise.

Speaker B:

That was one.

Speaker B:

I had to read the name off the box.

Speaker B:

So this one's a little easier on my foot and hopefully I get better soon with that.

Speaker B:

That's going to help because I was having quite a bit of pain.

Speaker B:

But when it comes to the work situations here at the, the Wonderful World of Disney, because you all know I keep talking about the mouse or this or that.

Speaker B:

I work for Disney.

Speaker B:

We all know that I'm not back in my regular job back.

Speaker B:

I'm.

Speaker B:

I'm working for the light duty department.

Speaker B:

Now, that's not exactly what it's called, but basically that's what it is.

Speaker B:

Light duty.

Speaker B:

Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Speaker B:

I get to keep working.

Speaker B:

I get out of the house three days a week because I'm part time.

Speaker B:

I meet some cool people, I get to talk with people.

Speaker B:

And I'm working in an office where I know most of the people in there because I've worked with them before when I was in scheduling.

Speaker B:

And I have to admit, it's a lot of fun.

Speaker B:

I enjoy it and not taxing, not hurting my foot any.

Speaker B:

So we're good to go.

Speaker B:

But I do get to see, you know, all the goings on underneath Magic Kingdom and, you know, and yeah, in Magic Kingdom, you know, you've all seen, I'm sure, the videos of the Utilidors and, and, and what was what it was when they built it and what it is today.

Speaker B:

Because as you know, everybody knows Magic Kingdom, everything that you see is the second floor.

Speaker B:

Everything down on the util doors is the first floor.

Speaker B:

So it had to build up to get the second floor.

Speaker B:

Where'd they get all that dirt?

Speaker B:

Seven Seas Lagoon.

Speaker B:

Which is why there's a lagoon there.

Speaker B:

Makes all kinds of sense, right?

Speaker B:

I tell you what, Disney had it, had it figured out.

Speaker B:

But there are all kinds of fun and, and challenging changes coming here at the Magic Kingdom and Disney World as it is all the way around Today, which is June 7, is the last day for the Muppets 3D adventure.

Speaker B:

They're tearing that down or they're renovating it to make it something else.

Speaker B:

I don't remember exactly what that is, but they are.

Speaker B:

So today is the last day of that.

Speaker B:

Now, it's not the end of the Muppets.

Speaker B:

It's just that they're going to move over to what used to be called, still is called Rock and Roller Coaster now.

Speaker B:

I stopped riding roller coasters a few years ago and I may have to take it back up just to see what that one looked like.

Speaker B:

You know, I just, I don't know.

Speaker B:

The Muppets in a roller coaster.

Speaker B:

That could be fun.

Speaker B:

The Liberty Bell ship, ship boat that travels around Tom Sawyer's island here at Magic Kingdom is going to go away to make room for the new Cars Land.

Speaker B:

Now Walt said change is inevitable and we need to embrace it.

Speaker B:

It's a changing world.

Speaker B:

It needs to be a changing Disney World.

Speaker B:

He felt that he, he embraced that he loved to change.

Speaker B:

I like change very little.

Speaker B:

I do like.

Speaker B:

It doesn't bother.

Speaker B:

It bothers me sometimes.

Speaker B:

But eventually it's fall for the good.

Speaker B:

I hated when they shut down the great movie ride at Hollywood Studios just to make Minnie and Mickey's Runaway Railroad.

Speaker B:

That's cool though.

Speaker B:

I still haven't been on that.

Speaker B:

But it'll be something different.

Speaker B:

It's going to evolve because you've got to bring in new people.

Speaker B:

Here in Orlando, Universal Studios just opened up the Epic Adventure and it's four lands all in one.

Speaker B:

And it's been the big news coming for a long time.

Speaker B:

And now that it's here is pretty popular and it's pretty packed.

Speaker B:

I have talked to a couple people who have been there and they say it's fantastic.

Speaker B:

And I would expect nothing else out of Universal or Disney.

Speaker B:

So that's, that's all I'm saying.

Speaker B:

And we got to keep up and things and times are changing.

Speaker B:

People have seen all this over and over and over and over and over again.

Speaker B:

Every time they come, it's the same thing.

Speaker B:

Well, you've got those that think that there's not should be nothing but the same thing.

Speaker B:

That's why I come.

Speaker B:

I come because this is what I expect.

Speaker B:

But then you've got those that say, can we have something new?

Speaker B:

You look at the people who are the roller coaster fanatics and I don't know if I'm calling them the right name, but that's the only name I can think of at this moment.

Speaker B:

But they're enthusiasts, they really love roller coasters and they can't wait for the newest one.

Speaker B:

And that's why places like Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio keep bringing on new roller coasters and fading away the older ones.

Speaker B:

And I think that it's the same kind of a concept here.

Speaker B:

Yes, we are for children.

Speaker B:

You know, it's based upon a child's dream and a child's world here at Disney.

Speaker B:

But it's also for the adults.

Speaker B:

You've got to make the adults just as happy as the kids.

Speaker B:

So, you know, and today's kids aren't watching the Daniel Boone's or our shows like that or Lassie or things like that anymore.

Speaker B:

They're watching other stuff that's, that's out and available now.

Speaker B:

You couldn't, you'd have to go to I think a Pluto TV to even find a Daniel Boone show.

Speaker B:

And I don't even know if you can find it there.

Speaker B:

I don't even know if you can find it on Disney plus, but I'm going to look updates to come.

Speaker B:

I may pop back in to this, this recording and, and edit it and let hey say hey by the way.

Speaker B:

But just so you know, it's changing and it's a good thing.

Speaker B:

So what else is going on in the world?

Speaker B:

Elon and Donald Trump are at odds.

Speaker B:

I guess they finally the bromance is over.

Speaker B:

I don't know.

Speaker B:

I've gotten to the point folks, where I have just given up on politics.

Speaker B:

I haven't given up on the fact that it's there.

Speaker B:

I've given up on the fact that I got to keep up with it.

Speaker B:

You got, it's just has gotten the lunacy.

Speaker B:

It really, really has.

Speaker B:

And that's the way it works.

Speaker B:

So anyway, folks, hey, do me a favor.
