Exploring the Transformative Impact of AI Technology in Everyday Life

This podcast episode elucidates the transformative capabilities of 11 Labs IO, an artificial intelligence company that enables users to create personalized voice outputs. I expound upon the significance of transparency when utilizing AI-generated content, emphasizing the necessity of disclosing such practices in one's podcast endeavors. Additionally, I share my recent experiences with technological advancements, particularly regarding my upgraded iPad Pro, which now exhibits functionalities akin to those of a traditional computer. Furthermore, I reflect on the concept of 'home,' navigating the emotional complexities associated with my relocation to Central Florida from Michigan. Finally, I seek your insights regarding the potential transition of this podcast into a video format, inviting your feedback to guide future developments.

During this enlightening episode, Gray Hair Dave navigates the realms of advanced technology and personal reflection. He introduces listeners to 11 Labs IO, a pioneering company specializing in artificial intelligence that generates custom voice assets. This revolutionary technology allows users to not only create voices that mimic their own but also to select from a plethora of voice options. Dave stresses the ethical necessity of transparency when integrating such technology into podcasting, underscoring that creators should disclose the use of AI-generated content to maintain integrity and trust with their audience.

As he shifts focus, Gray Hair Dave shares his experience of returning to Michigan after an extended period. This visit catalyzes a profound contemplation of what home truly signifies. Despite establishing a life in Central Florida—where he has worked at Disney World for nearly a decade—he grapples with a sense of longing for his roots in Michigan. This inner conflict highlights the universal human experience of belonging, as he reflects on the relationships and memories that define one’s sense of home. Listeners are invited to engage with these themes, prompting them to consider their own connections to places that hold significant meaning in their lives.

In a forward-looking conclusion, Dave contemplates the potential transition to video podcasting, soliciting feedback from his audience on this new direction. He acknowledges the additional challenges that video editing entails, yet remains open to this evolution should it align with listener interests. This willingness to adapt signifies the dynamic nature of podcasting, where content creators must continuously innovate and respond to the desires of their audience.

Welcome to five Minutes with Gray Hair Dave.

Speaker A:

He has gray hair.

Speaker A:

He has a gray beard and he wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.

Speaker A:

Oh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking.

Speaker A:

Now here is Gray Hair Dave.

Speaker A:

Well, folks, what did you think of that?

Speaker A:

That's 11 Labs IO.

Speaker A:

They are a AI company where you can type in what you want and it will create a voice for you or you can choose from all the different voices or it will map.

Speaker A:

It will mimic yours, I think, and you can use it wherever you need to.

Speaker A:

I will tell you this just to be on the safe side.

Speaker A:

If you're using 11 labs or something to that effect, something AI generated, you really need to divulge that somewhere in your podcast if that's what you're doing.

Speaker A:

Okay, now just so you know, there will be a link in the.

Speaker A:

In the show notes for 11 Labs IO.

Speaker A:

I do have an affiliate with them.

Speaker A:

I am an affiliate.

Speaker A:

So if you sign up because of me and use my code, you will then be giving me a couple pennies or whatever it is for signing up.

Speaker A:

You know how that old affiliate link stuff goes, right?

Speaker A:

So anyways, folks, welcome back to five Minutes of Gray Hair Dave.

Speaker A:

I am back in Michigan.

Speaker A:

Happy to be back from Michigan.

Speaker A:

Happy to be here.

Speaker A:

I went back to work last week, was happy to see all the things going on there and, and going on around here.

Speaker A:

It's been hot and rainy, of course.

Speaker A:

Luckily when it rains, it cools off a little bit, so that makes life a little bit easier.

Speaker A:

But it's.

Speaker A:

It's a beautiful day out here today in central Florida and we're going to continue on with what we're going to talk about today.

Speaker A:

I got about two or three things I want to talk about really, really quick, and I'm going to try and keep this one under 12 minutes, not 18 like the last one.

Speaker A:

Oh, I tell you, there's something in the air down here, folks, that is creating havoc with my throat.

Speaker A:

And I don't know what it is, but it is.

Speaker A:

I was outside working a little bit earlier and it was.

Speaker A:

Must have.

Speaker A:

There's something in the air.

Speaker A:

Anyways, so here's a couple things that I want to talk about.

Speaker A:

First, I'm going to talk about technology.

Speaker A:

And this is probably going to take up the majority of what I have to talk about today.

Speaker A:

But we've mentioned this before.

Speaker A:

I.

Speaker A:

That I upgraded my iPad and went to an M4M Pad Pro.

Speaker A:

IPad Pro.

Speaker A:

Well, I've got the latest updates and all those fun things, and I keep seeing all These videos about iPad OS 26 beta.

Speaker A:

This is a beta test.

Speaker A:

I always wondered how I could get on to the beta test site, you know, how I could get into this program to where I could try these things and give my results as I see them, because I find this stuff amazingly interesting.

Speaker A:

So last night I was a little bored, I'll be honest, because there really wasn't much going on and it was raining on and off all day long and I really didn't feel like going out and doing anything.

Speaker A:

So I decided to look into this and I did.

Speaker A:

And so I downloaded it.

Speaker A:

I got onto their site.

Speaker A:

I was able to get to their site for, you know, for beta testers and it allowed me to download it.

Speaker A:

And this is a game changer in my mind, folks.

Speaker A:

There are so just the way it gives you that look of, of, of glass on your screen.

Speaker A:

It.

Speaker A:

Oh.

Speaker A:

I can't explain in great detail what it does, but just the fact that my iPad now works more like a computer than an iPad is cool.

Speaker A:

But it's still an iPad and does all the iPad things.

Speaker A:

And I'm not seeing yet.

Speaker A:

And I've only played with it for a little while today.

Speaker A:

I played with it last night, you know, to see what it was doing and what it just.

Speaker A:

I thought it was going to really start to drain my battery quickly.

Speaker A:

And that's not the fact.

Speaker A:

It really does.

Speaker A:

Not yet.

Speaker A:

So if you have the ability to download it and you have not yet try it.

Speaker A:

It's.

Speaker A:

It's nice.

Speaker A:

I'm 100 in favor of it and can't look forward enough to.

Speaker A:

To it when it becomes full, you know, fully available for everybody.

Speaker A:

I'm not going to download this on my phone or on my computer or anything like that yet, but I may look into it for my Mac Mini.

Speaker A:

There are a couple of things that I was disappointed in and when I was reading on the site that you had to have an M4 chip, well, at least on the iPad I didn't go about computers, but I've got a MacBook and I've also got my Mac Mini and I want to try it on the MacBook to see if I can do that.

Speaker A:

And I'm going to do that after I'm done with, with this recording today.

Speaker A:

But I'll let you know what happens because this is the fun stuff for me.

Speaker A:

This is the technology part of it I love.

Speaker A:

But if it's, it's available, if it's available to you folks, look into it or go to YouTube and, and look at some of the videos that were put out, because I'm not going to do that.

Speaker A:

I'm not going to put out a video about the change because there are so many people out there who do such a great job at doing that.

Speaker A:

I don't need to be another one.

Speaker A:

Okay, my next subject that I really, really wanted to talk to you about is location, location, location.

Speaker A:

Hundred percent honest with you, folks.

Speaker A:

I live in Central Florida.

Speaker A:

It's really close to Disney World, which, of course you all know this is where I work.

Speaker A:

Me and Mickey are getting closer and closer and closer because I've been there almost 10 years.

Speaker A:

But when I went home, I realized how much I missed home.

Speaker A:

And it's not home for me anymore.

Speaker A:

This is home for me.

Speaker A:

I've been here 19 years, and this is home for me now.

Speaker A:

But I realized how much I miss for not being up in Michigan where all the rest of my family is now.

Speaker A:

I have friends down here and people I consider family, but it's.

Speaker A:

There's something in me gnawing at the fact that I'm not back home, back where I grew up, back in Michigan.

Speaker A:

That's not to say that I really want to move back right now, but I kind of do.

Speaker A:

But I kind of don't.

Speaker A:

My goal when I moved down here, folks, was to live on or near the beach.

Speaker A:

Well, Disney World is.

Speaker A:

Is centered pretty much in the center of the state, which is why they call it Central Florida.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

But it's, you know, I'm an hour and a half to the Atlantic Ocean and about two hours away from the Pacific, or, I'm sorry, from the Gulf of Mexico or from.

Speaker A:

In quotation marks, air quotes here.

Speaker A:

The Gulf of America and air quotes.

Speaker A:

I'm not going to go into politics today, folks.

Speaker A:

I promised myself I wasn't going into politics.

Speaker A:

But, you know, I got 10 years in and I want to.

Speaker A:

I'm thinking about not working at Disney anymore and just really focusing on the editing business.

Speaker A:

And I could do that anywhere, whether that's down here or up north.

Speaker A:

Now, a lot of you might say, well, Dave, why don't you just buy.

Speaker A:

Get something up north and then come down here and be a snowbird?

Speaker A:

It's an option.

Speaker A:

It's an option I haven't considered until just now.

Speaker A:

Problem with that is most people who are snowbirds already have a place to stay or they've got a mobile home or a motorhome or something down here.

Speaker A:

That's something I might look into.

Speaker A:

I think I have.

Speaker A:

I have some ideas on that now.

Speaker A:

See When I talk to you folks, you give me all these great ideas and I really, really appreciate that.

Speaker A:

I really, really do.

Speaker A:

And it's something for me to think about.

Speaker A:

But if you've got opinions on it, let me know.

Speaker A:

Another thing I wanted to talk to, this is topic number three, and this is, this is going to be short.

Speaker A:

I've been considering and talked, have talked about it, going to video on this, on this show.

Speaker A:

And I want, I want your opinion.

Speaker A:

Do you think, or would you like to see Gray Hair Dave or the podcast 5 Minutes of Gray Hair Dave on YouTube as a video?

Speaker A:

Speaker A:

I have all the tools I need to do it.

Speaker A:

I just need to know if it's something you're interested in.

Speaker A:

If it is, great.

Speaker A:

If it's not, then I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna waste my time because I'll be a little bit honest here.

Speaker A:

Yeah, a whole lot honest here.

In this podcast, I'll be sharing my life experiences, having worked in various industries from paper mills to airlines, and even running a dance studio. I've also had my fair share of personal challenges, including two marriages that didn't work out, but that's life, and I'm here to share the wisdom I've gained.
I'm also excited to talk about my new venture, Boomer Podcasting, where I aim to teach fellow baby boomers and anyone interested in podcasting how to share their stories and leave a legacy.
This podcast isn't just for baby boomers, though. I welcome listeners of all generations to join in as I discuss life lessons, my new business, and a range of topics from family and friendships to music, TV shows, cars, technology, books, historical events, and even encounters with famous individuals.
I promise to keep the content upbeat and child-friendly, with no cursing or ranting. I've got a lot planned for the first 30 days and am open to more ideas. So, stay tuned for engaging stories, reflections on past decades, and discussions on holiday traditions.
Remember, this podcast is for everyone, and I want to show that anyone can podcast, even with just a phone. I'm looking forward to sharing more and hope you'll join me on this journey.
